Class of 1962David HarrisDave and Becky about a year ago ![]() Places Lordy, the list is sooo long! Let's begin with a '62 move to Logan, then San Antonio TX, Syracuse NY, San Angelo TX, Frankfurt GE, back to Syracuse, Fairbanks, AK, back to San Angelo, Glen Burnie MD, Honolulu HI, back to Maryland, Orlando FL, and finally to lovely West Melbourne, FL.
Jobs After knocking around playing music in and after high school, that trip to Texas was after joining the AF (thanks to my "good buddy" Steve Justice -- I'll never forgive him for that!). Eight years in the AF where I learned Russian (see, that French teacher was WRONG! I can learn a foreign language!) at Syracuse University. After discharge from the AF in '71 I went to work as an intelligence analyst and Russian linguist for National Security Agency for 22 years. I've since taken up medical trascription from home since the late 90s, and am still involved in it today.
Spouse(s) I married in '64 to Jan, a lady I met in Texas, but that only lasted till 1998 -- just a brief encounter in the scheme of things. And after knocking around solo for a while, I met a lovely lady named Becky here in Florida, and after "living in sin" for several years, we were married in December 2005.
Children My first son, born in 1967, died at 18 months in Alaska of meningitis. After taking several years to overcome that blow, my wife and I subsequently had another son, and a daughter in the early 70s. Both still live in Maryland, are married, and I am now 4 times a grandpa.
Hobbies Music, of course. It has always been a big part of my life, and I've played in several bands over the years. When the kids came along I got into coaching youth sports, and ultimately heavily into umpiring amateur baseball primarily at the high school and college level. Now I'm a pretty fair carpenter and woodworker, handyman around the house, and amateur artist who works some in oils.
Accomplishments, if any I think the major accomplishment of my life is that I have stayed out of prison -- there were times in my youth when I was not sure that would be possible! I think I contributed something to that horrible "cold war" period, but I think my major accomplishement is raising my children and living my life to the fullest.
Life Story Actually, I think the sections above pretty much relate my life story, at least in summary. I will say that I have come a very long way for a poor little country hillbilly who came out of Logan County with very little education (as most of you will remember, high school was not high on my priority list!). I've seen most of the world, lived in wonderful places, and been through more experiences than a lot of people see in a lifetime. And not to be overly morbid here, but with the end rapidly approaching for us all, I feel like I have no regrets. And after all, isn't that really the most important thing?
Contact I would welcome contact from any or all of you old schoolmates. Since it seems I was always either out of the country, indisposed, or unable to attend any of the class reunions, I have lost all track of everyone. You may contact me via email at "graybeard@cfl.rr.com" and I promise you a reply. I also notice several old Man Hi folks living right in this neck of the woods. The only one I've seen has been Jim Blevins, who just happens to live not 2 miles from me.
